Summary:
Richard Turere is a young inventor who lives in Kenya. His community(Maasai) is in the south parts of the Nairobi National park. When wild animals like zebras migrate to Nairobi National park, lions will follow them. That causes a big problem because livestock is an easier prey for lions compared to animals living in wild. These types of attacks often lead to hunting and killing of lions because livestock has an important meaning for those who live in Maasai.

In Maasai, young boys aged from 6 - 9 years old are responsible for their parents' livestock. Same as Richard. Unfortunately, one of Richard's cow was killed at a night. So that Richard started to figure out a solution to fix this issue. He tried to use scarecrows to deceive lions, but it turns out doesn't work. He then tried another way like fire but it does not work as well. Richard didn't give up, he continued to find out the solution. Finally, he realized that the lions will not attack when people was present. People usually present with torch. Therefore, Richard invented the "lion light" which can be switched on and off. It was powered by car battery and charged by solar panel.

This new invention was known by Richard's neighbors. Richard helped them to install lion lights around their farm. Since then, the lion-human conflict in this area was ceased. Because of this special contribution, Richard won a scholarship one of the best schools in Kenya. As a young inventor, Richard's dream does not stop at here. When he grows up, he wants to be an aircraft engineer and pilot.
